According to the Director General of the Environmental Board Rainer Vakra, there is no work equipment left in Ukraine that can be used locally, which is why it is very important to provide help to good colleagues. "Helping the people and the country of Ukraine in these extremely difficult times is important. That is why we sent three vehicles, two snowmobiles, two trailers and various work and personal protective equipment necessary for the work of environmental supervision to Ukraine from the assets of the Environmental Board as humanitarian aid," said Vakra.
Three vehicles, including two minibuses, which have been in use for more than 10 years in environmental supervision in Estonia, will be sent to Ukraine. Two gas velocity meters, three gas detectors, four electronic measuring wedges, a metal detector and three water sampling kits were packed into the trunk of buses traveling to Ukraine. In addition, five boxes of labware donated by TalTech's Institute of Geology and three boxes of labware donated by the Office of Radiation Monitoring of the Environmental Board will go to Ukraine.
The employees of the Environmental Board also put their shoulders down to support the Ukrainians. With the donation money collected from the Envronmental Board's employees, it was possible to send an electric generator, water canisters, battery banks and chocolate to colleagues in Ukraine. "I would like to thank all the donors from the bottom of my heart. Continuity is key in helping Ukrainians, and we must not tire of it," said the Director General.
United Delivery Mission, an NGO, helps the Environmental Board to deliver the shipment to Ukraine. The value of the aid package put together in cooperation between the Environmental Board and TalTech is approximately 76,000 euros.
This is the second large aid shipment to Ukraine. Last March, the Environment Agency sent humanitarian aid worth 121,979 euros to Ukraine. Then the Environmental Board sent 12 four-wheel drive vehicles, work tools, bulletproof vests, boots and clothes to Ukraine.
