“I am confident that Rainer Vakra's involvement in environmental issues and his experience as a politician and a leader will be sufficient to succeed in this responsible position," said Erki Savisaar, Minister of the Environment, who signed his appointment directive today based on the recommendation from the committee for selection of higher public officers. “Rainer Vakra promises to make the Environmental Board an even more open and inclusive institution. This is important because the environmental competence center, born after the merger of the Environmental Inspectorate and the Environmental Board, has to be a dignified partner for institutions, companies, local governments and all people.”
Rainer Vakra assured that he understands the efforts of the Environmental Board not to be only the implementer of laws and the controller of the compliance with laws, but also a partner of various parties in this way. “We all work on a common goal, so that it would be good for the nature and good to be in the nature,” he said. “The Environmental Board is located in 28 points in Estonia, and it employs more than 500 specialists in their field - such a presence at the grassroot level has to continue.”
Rainer Vakra graduated from Tallinn University, and he has a degree in the management of environment. Among other things, he has been the elder of the Nõmme district of Tallinn and a member of the two memberships of the Parliament. He has also led the Environment Committee. Rainer Vakra is currently working as the manager of AS Tallinna Soojus.
