The poster can be downloaded in Estonian, Russian and English from the Environmental Board's website or the environmental education portal.
According to Piret Eensoo, the head of the Environmental Education Bureau of the Environmental Board, the election of the heroes of the year is an annual practice of environmental organizations. "It provides an opportunity to get to know both well-known and slightly lesser-known characters in our nature. By getting to know the species around us better, we are also able to notice them better in nature and take care of them," said Piret Eensoo.
The heroes of the year in nature have been chosen by MTÜ Aasta Loom in cooperation with the Estonian Theriogical Society, the Estonian Society for Nature Conservation, the Estonian Hunters' Society, Tallinn Zoo, Estonian Private Forest Center, the Estonian Museum of Natural History, the Estonian Ornithological Society, the magazine "Eesti Loodus," the Estonian Naturalist's Society, the Estonian Mycological Society, the Estonian Bryological Society, the Estonian Society of Lepidopterologists, Estonian University of Life Sciences and the magazine "Kalastaja".
The Environmental Education Bureau of the Environmental Board has been compiling factsheets with the heroes of the year for seven years. The factsheet provides links to sources for more information on the heroes of the year and those who elect them.
