We at the Environmental Board have worked for years to educate Estonian people about our nature, how to protect and value it – but you cannot value something without experiencing it. We organise hikes and walks in nature, organise volunteers for cleanup days and can only feel elated when both Estonians and visitors to Estonia get the chance to experience our nature.
A small part of Estonia has been reserved to maintain special natural values. These are pieces of nature that we have taken under protection: these include nature reservations where only scientists are allowed to tread; Natura-locations, national parks and land protection areas. These are places where nature is vulnerable, and it is our duty to protect it.
So we ask you that when you organise your large sports and culture events on these areas that you follow and respect the needs of the protected land. We want to allow you to organise your gatherings in these areas, however only if the event can be held in such a way that it doesn’t damage the protected area.
After all, there are many places where you can do whatever you want. But please be mindful of protected land.
